Elder Weatherford T. Clayton was serving as president of the Canada Toronto Mission when he was called to be a General Authority Seventy at the April 2016 general conference.
Elder Clayton received a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1977 and a medical degree in 1981, both from the University of Utah. He worked as a resident physician at UC Irvine until 1985 and had his own medical practice until 2013, after which he worked as a laborist until he retired in 2014.
Elder Clayton has served in a number of Church callings, including full-time missionary in the French Canadian Mission, bishop, high councilor, Gospel Doctrine teacher, counselor in a stake presidency, stake president and mission president.
William Weatherford Touchstone Clayton was born in Los Angeles, California, on March 1, 1952. He married Lisa Madeline Thomas in 1976. They are the parents of five children.
During the April 2016 General Conference, it was announced that President Clayton would be Elder Clayton. So sad for the missionaries of the Canada, Toronto Mission but no surprise to anyone. Several of the missionaries including Sister Osman had expressed that they thought President Clayton would be called as a general authority at some point because of the man he is. We are so excited for him and wish him and his family well in their new assignment. He will be leaving the mission on July 1, 2016.
